Amani is an 18-year-old who recently shared her story about living with epilepsy. In her video, she opens up about what it’s like to live each day with the worry of having a seizure and not always knowing if people around her would know how to help. Her honesty and courage help others understand what many people with epilepsy feel but don’t always say out loud.

Today, with the right treatment and care from Dr. Keough and our epilepsy team at Child Neurology & Consultants of Austin, Amani is doing so well. Her seizures are well controlled, and she feels more confident – spending time with friends, enjoying school, and embracing life knowing that epilepsy doesn’t define who she is.
In Texas, Sam’s Law now requires many public-school staff members to receive training in seizure recognition and first aid. It’s a big step forward, but not every staff member is yet required to take that training. That’s why spreading awareness – like Amani does – matters so much.
The Epilepsy Foundation of Texas Central & South Texas offers free seizure first aid training for schools, families, and anyone who wants to help keep students with epilepsy safe.
