Child Neurology Consultants Visits Kenya

A group of our staff from Child Neurology Consultants recently traveled to Kenya to provide medical care to those in need.

Dr. Lindsay Elton, nurse practitioner Toshia McKeon, and EEG technician John Avery joined the Austin-based non-profit UBUNTU Health on this particular mission.

They visited three different locations in Kenya’s Rift Valley Province--Maai Mahiu, Kijabe, and Thigio—offering treatment for both kids and adults suffering from epilepsy and seizures, Cerebral Palsy, and headaches

A pediatric dermatologist and pediatric resident also accompanied them.

“We were all so grateful for the opportunity to treat these amazing children and offer the community there the medical care they need that we have grown accustomed to here,” said board-certified child neurologist Dr. Lindsay Elton. “Our hope in going there is to help them gradually establish their own clinics for continued high quality pediatric neurology care.”

The UBUNTU Health group partners with medical providers to regularly bring teams of specialists to host clinics in Kenya and treat patients while also teaching local healthcare workers there how to operate clinics of their own.

Child Neurology Consultants of Austin is proud to be a long-standing partner of UBUNTU and have participated in several humanitarian trips over the last several years.
